Environmental Training Services

Hinds Environmental, Inc. is a full service environmental company which has been in business since 1986. Our personnel have years of field experience which is incorporated into all of our environmental courses. Our courses are accredited by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and EPA approved.
All individuals who wish to be licensed by the State of Illinois must first take the initial course then submit a copy of the course certificate, a completed application, and a fee to the Illinois Department of Public Health. A corresponding refresher course is required annually for license renewal.

Environmental Training Course List

Project Designer

The project designer course curriculum covers the background, health effects, and regulations of asbestos. Individuals will participate in workshops that detail writing abatement specifications & contracts, preparing abatement drawings, cost estimation, budgeting, and abatement solutions. The individual will be accredited to conduct project design in public and commercial properties as well as schools. This course satisfies the training requirements to be an IDPH licensed Project Designer.

Asbestos Building Inspector

The building inspector course covers the history and health effects of asbestos, and details building components, inspection planning & sampling protocol. Workshops for the inspector students include conducting an inspection, developing a bulk sampling scheme and producing an inspection report. This course satisfies the training requirement to be an IDPH licensed building inspector.

Management Planner

The management planner course covers the pertinent regulations and details the hazard assessment procedures needed to develop the various phases of a management plan. A workshop is provided that evaluates and interprets information from the inspection report and converts it into a working management plan. This course, along with the building inspector course, satisfies the training requirement to be an IDPH licensed management planner.

Contractor Supervisor

The contractor supervisor course addresses the basics of asbestos as well as detailing the engineering controls, work practices, and personal protective equipment involved with abatement operations. This course satisfies the training requirement to be a competent person (OSHA), an IDPH licensed supervisor, worker, or a project manager on an abatement project.

Asbestos Worker

The worker conducts abatement response actions related to the removal and control of asbestos. Material covered includes the background, health effects, personal protective measures, acceptable work practices and preparation. This course satisfies the training requirements to be an IDPH licensed asbestos abatement worker.

Sixteen Hour O&M

This course provides the OSHA required training for small scale repair and maintenance operations where asbestos is likely to be disturbed.  In the State of Illinois, this training allows the removal of up to three square feet or three linear feet of asbestos containing materials.  Material covered includes, background, health effects, personal protection and work practices.

NIOSH 582E

Lead Inspector

The lead inspector course details the history, health, and regulatory background. Workshops cover lead inspection sampling and testing techniques. This course satisfies the training requirement to be an IDPH licensed lead inspector and to conduct clearance sampling for removal projects. An exam administered by IDPH is required for licensure.

Risk Assessor

The risk assessor course covers the key issues of the Lead Inspector course, lead hazard screening, and the risk assessment process. Workshops include inspection, testing, and report preparation. This course, along with the Lead Inspector course, satisfies the training required to be an IDPH licensed risk assessor. An exam administered by IDPH is required for licensure.
